Welcome to The Stigma Relief Fund, a non-profit group dedicated to eradicating the stigma surrounding a woman’s right to reproductive health services and abortion care. The stigma surrounding these issues occurs in a variety of forms, such as silence, aggravation, and anti-choice legislation. The result is a growing deterioration of reproductive rights, inability to access basic health services, and a startling tolerance for the harassment of patients and providers.

Since the passage of Roe v. Wade in 1973, over 50 million women have received abortion services, and with current rates approximately 1 in 3 women will undergo an abortion. Where are these women in the national, or even local abortion discussions? Negative stigma surrounding one of the safest, most common medical procedures in the nation has pushed those involved to silence, creating an open arena for those working to limit access and encourage shame and harassment.

Our mission is to support women in their quest to gain control of their reproductive rights, and to develop an open dialogue allowing people to discuss abortion, free from fear or stigma. Once we are able to discuss these issues in a safe environment, we can continue to improve conditions for women facing a decision that often prompts a complete identity examination, while also making conditions safer for those working to help them.
